Wat Sika Samud is located to the east, outside of Ayutthaya City Island, and it faces the east. This monastery looks like an island as it is surrounded by a ditch. The ditch is used in place of the usual sima stone boundary markers, and is called an u-tok sima (u-tok is a Thai promunciation of udaka in Pali which means “Water”), similar to the usage of Sri Lankan Buddhism.

The plan of this temple consists of the ubosot or the ordination hall, with the principal stupa to its west.
There is no evidence of this temple’s historical background or period of contruction. However, according to the archacological evidence, this temple was first built in the early, Ayutthaya period. Later, it was abandoned after the invasion of the Burmese army in 1767 A.D.

The Principal Stupa
The principal stupa in a bell-shaped is on a circular foundation, decorated with 20 lotus-shaped niches. Each niche was probably used to house the Buddha image, similar to the principal stupa in Wat Maheyong, located nearby.
